Knitting a community together
About the Artist

Sue Sturdy is a Fibre Artist whose work has been accepted in a number of juried exhibits, most recently was the Waterloo-Wellington County Museum Juried Art Show called Insights with a piece titled "Black Hole".
Sue grew up in Cambridge and developed her interest in fibre art because of the diverse stories of fabric and yarns that are a significant part of the history of the city. Galt, Preston and Hespeler were originally built as mill towns to take advantage of the flowing water of the Grand and the rolling hills adjacent which were home to sheep farms. Sue Sturdy has worked in fabric all of her life, from piecing her Grandmother's quilt squares into doll clothes, winning a Singer Sewing Contest, organizing Fashion Shows at Glenview Park Secondary School and sewing for teachers.
After graduating from Fashion Design (specializing in knitting) at Sheridan College, Sue was employed by Empisal Knitting Machines in Koln, Germany to design knitted garments for fashion shows. When she returned to home, Sue worked on the Hespeler Textile Festival, organizing their Sewing and Knitting Competition. Other projects included designing and sewing costumes for a Theatre Company in Guelph and the Galt Little Theatre.
